Asbestos testing and removal in Littleton
Littleton follows Colorado's state asbestos rules. Here is what's specific to Littleton, then the state rules every project has to meet.
What's specific to Littleton
- Littleton's demolition submittal list asks for the Colorado state demolition approval for each structure coming down, plus the asbestos abatement report if one exists.
- Every utility has to be disconnected before the tear-down, and the city wants proof that Denver Water approved the water service disconnect.
- The same list asks for a separate grading permit and a debris hauling map (or written turn-by-turn route) to the nearest state highway.
- The asbestos sheet Littleton posts with its permit forms says concrete or wood with asbestos material stuck to it, such as floor tile or mastic, may not be recycled.
- Permits are handled at the Littleton Center, 2255 W. Berry Ave. The Permit Center is closed on Fridays.
The state rules that still apply
- Test first if you'll disturb more than 32 square feet of other surfaces, 50 linear feet of pipe or one 55-gallon drum in a house, and before any demolition.
- Crumbly asbestos above those amounts is removed by a state-certified abatement contractor under a state permit ($180–$420 for a house), after a 10-working-day notice.
- Demolition always needs a state demolition notice ($50 plus $5 for every 1,000 square feet demolished).
