Denver removal cost compared with the state fees
The contractor's price and the state's fee are separate. The state fee is fixed by Colorado and is the same whichever company you hire; it is usually built into the contractor's quote.
| Job | Typical contractor price | Colorado state fee | Where the numbers come from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Removal, average house job | $3,662 (most $1,822–$5,643) | $180 (30-day permit) to $420 (1-year permit) | Angi Denver guide; CDPHE fee table |
| Indoor removal, per square foot | $6.25–$25 | Same permit fees, if above the trigger amounts | Angi Denver guide; CDPHE |
| Small job that needs only a notice | varies | $60 notice | CDPHE fee table |
| Large or commercial job | quote only | $400 (30-day) to $1,200 (1-year) | CDPHE fee table |
| Demolishing a building | quote only | $50 plus $5 for every 1,000 square feet demolished | CDPHE |
| Inspection visit | $250–$850 | none | HomeGuide, national figure |
| Lab test, per sample | $20–$80 | none | HomeGuide, national figure |
What changes the price
- Crumbly or intact. Crumbly ("friable") material needs a certified abatement contractor and a state permit; intact material often doesn't.
- How much. Above the state trigger amounts the permit and notice rules kick in.
- Air testing after removal and disposal fees. Ask whether they are included.
