Asbestos testing and removal in Aurora
Aurora follows Colorado's state asbestos rules. Here is what's specific to Aurora, then the state rules every project has to meet.
What's specific to Aurora
- We found no extra Aurora city asbestos paperwork beyond the state rules. That is not yet confirmed — ask Aurora's permit office before you start.
- The Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site (DADS), 3500 S. Gun Club Rd in Aurora, lists friable and non-friable asbestos among the wastes it accepts. Call ahead; some waste must be scheduled.
The state rules that still apply
- Test first if you'll disturb more than 32 square feet of other surfaces, 50 linear feet of pipe or one 55-gallon drum in a house — and before any demolition.
- Crumbly asbestos above those amounts is removed by a state-certified abatement contractor under a state permit ($180–$420 for a house), after a 10-working-day notice.
- Demolition always needs a state demolition notice ($50 plus $5 for every 1,000 square feet demolished).
